Australian Volleyball Schools Cup – Day 2 Monday December 8
Day two arrived on the Gold Coast, with 529 teams diving into competition for a huge day at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup.
After seeing the tournament burst to life yesterday, today marked the first matches for most divisions, bringing athletes from all 164 schools fully into the event.
With first-day nerves beginning to settle, play across all venues lifted in intensity as teams chased crucial early wins and began to find their rhythm for the week.
For Mabel Park State High School athletes Evelyn and Christina, today marked their first taste of the Schools Cup atmosphere.
“It’s pretty exciting to have such a big volleyball event here in our state,” Evelyn said.
“We are a bit anxious to have our first game today, but we play in our state’s Schools Cup so this is the next step up.”
“We’re feeling really excited about finally being able to play, and we can’t wait to have a good week,” Christina said.
William and Cameron from Knox Grammar School in Sydney are seasoned competitors, returning for their fourth and third Schools Cup appearances and competing in the Year 11 Honours division.
“I love coming to compete at the Schools Cup because of the freedom I have to just play volleyball with my mates,” Cameron said.
“For me, it’s a great opportunity to meet up with all my mates from across the country, and there’s not many opportunities for us to meet up like this so it’s great,” William said.
“This event is a great chance for us to watch each other play, support each other and also play against them – that’s my favourite part about the Schools Cup.”
