Day Four Wrap – Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games

Thomas Turner (QLD) and Ryan Edgar (QLD) will compete for bronze in the men’s beach volleyball at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, following an impressive run in Saly that has taken them all the way to the semifinals.

The Australian pair advanced in style, defeating USA duo Caden Phillips and Gavin Mortensen in the quarterfinals in straight sets 2-0 (21-13; 21-16).

Turner and Edgar then faced a strong Austrian pair in the semifinals, with Martin Poinstingl and Paul Hohenauer taking the match 2-0 (21-15; 21-16).

“Austria really brought it today. They were playing at a very high level. They didn’t allow us to play our game so I think they did a really good job,” Turner said.

The Aussies showed plenty of fight with a late surge in the second set that put the Austrians under pressure, setting up a bronze medal clash with Brazil.

“It’s been a good stepping stone to be able to play against some high-level teams throughout the entire tournament and hopefully we can put our best foot forward for tomorrow’s bronze medal match,” Edgar said.

Turner and Edgar will now take on Brazil’s Gabriel and Bruno Fellipe for bronze.
