Day Three Wrap – Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
Australia’s beach volleyball pair are on a roll at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, with Thomas Turner (QLD) and Ryan Edgar (QLD) edging out the Democratic Republic of the Congo 2-1 (21-16; 19-21; 15-13) to reach the men’s quarterfinals.
The Aussies held their own in a tight contest, starting with a solid opening set to take a 1-0 lead before the Democratic Republic of the Congo duo fought back and forced a deciding set.
“I think the opposition really brought it today. I was very impressed by the game that they played. They came out really hard, and they really pushed us. It was a good game,” Turner said.
The Aussie pair, who have been playing together for two years, credited the experience and trust they have built to dig deep and secure the victory in the final set.
“I think we’ve been in those positions a thousand times. I think we just trust ourselves. We back our game, and we know that when it really counts, that we can deliver and execute our skills,” Turner said.
Turner and Edgar will return to the beach at Saly, Senegal, to play USA duo Caden Phillips and Gavin Mortensen in the men’s quarterfinals. The winner will advance to the semifinals later in the afternoon.
