Fejes & Johnson score Futures win in Poland

Stefie Fejes and Georgia Johnson have won their first Futures event as a team, taking out the event in Krakow, Poland over the weekend.

The newly-formed combination were playing just their fourth tournament together, and needed to turn the tables on a local team following the pool rounds.

Having beaten Malgorzata Ciezkowska and Urszula Lunio at the Battipaglia Futures in May, the Poles reversed the result in the pool round on Friday to push the Australians into the round of 12.

From there, Fejes and Johnson never looked back, winning three straight matches to once again face Ciezkowska and Lunio in the final.

While the Poles won the first set, Fejes and Johnson hit back in commanding fashion to take the second 21-11 and have the ascendancy going into the decider.

Overcoming the home ground advantage their opponents enjoyed, the Australians took the third 15-9 to claim the title.

It is the fourth Futures victory for Fejes, second for Johnson and the first for the pair as a combination.

Jana Milutinovic and Jasmine Fleming finished fifth after topping their pool but bowing out in the quarter-finals.

The Women’s Developing Beach Volleyroos continue their run of Asian and European tournaments over the coming weeks.
