Hodges and Schubert begin Paris campaign
Tom Hodges and Zach Schubert are the last Australian team to get their pool matches underway at Paris 2024 and do so against the Polish duo of Michal Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak.
The Poles are the bronze medallists from the 2023 World Championships in Mexico and are currently inside the world’s top 10.
Hodges said that while they have not met before in competition, the Olympic debutants know what to expect.
“I think it’s going to be a really tough battle,” said Hodges. “Poland’s a great team currently ranked 10th in the world. They’ve got a really big blocker and a real crafty, smart, fast defender so we’re going to have to play some of our best volleyball to bring it against them but we’re certainly excited to take on the opportunity and the challenge.”
Schubert believes the stage is set for an exciting contest and is hoping for loud support in the stadium and plenty of support from back home.
“A really intense game, but Tom and myself love those and I think Australia also loves to see those underdog games where it’s a little bit unexpected as to who should get the result but Tom and myself will definitely be ready for it.”
