QUEENSLAND PIRATES GO BACK-TO-BACK IN MAHINDRA AUSTRALIAN VOLLEYBALL SUPER LEAGUE
The Queensland Pirates have gone back-to-back, winning the 2025 Mahindra Australian Volleyball Super League men’s title with a strong victory over Perth Steel at South Pine Sports Complex on Sunday.
In front of a loud home crowd, the Pirates wrapped up an unbeaten season to claim another championship and make history for two of their longest-serving players.
Team veterans Benjamin Bell and Keiran Ivers both secured their eighth Super League gold medal, the most ever won by any player in the competition’s history.
Ivers also became the only player to have won all eight titles with the Queensland Pirates, while captain Andrew Maclean collected his sixth gold medal. Rising star Jack McIntosh capped off a standout season by being named Most Valuable Player.
“Yeah, extremely proud of the boys. We’ve taken some time and it’s sunk in now, and we’re definitely celebrating,” Queensland Pirates Captain Andrew Maclean said.
“It’s definitely a bucket list item to get one of these titles undefeated for myself and this group.
“The home ground was awesome. I think a grand final throws different situations out there in the game, and with some level heads we were able to take advantage of that and finish strong.”
Queensland Pirates Coach Kylie Marshall said the team’s hard work and depth were key to their success.
“It’s pretty exciting to get the win today. We worked really hard all season and it wasn’t easy, we had to make it work for us,” Marshall said.
“Being defending champions is amazing. We only had two guys on court at the start of last year’s grand final, so it shows the great depth we have in our team.
“The crowd was incredible. I’ve only heard that kind of noise at international competitions.”
