Storm motivated by near misses
With just a few days until the start of the 2024 Mahindra Super League, the Adelaide Storm team are more inspired and determined than ever.
The Storm finished fourth last season, going down after a hard-fought battle with the Melbourne Vipers.
“We absolutely left it all on the court,” Storm player Rebecca Reeve said.
“We were all gutted after that loss, but it has just fuelled our motivation for this year.”
Reeve, a standout player for the Storm, had an impressive run last season. Despite her personal success, Reeve remains focused on the team’s overall performance.
“I’m always just trying to do my best for the team, so I was less focused on personal results and more about the team results,” she said.
As a captain, Reeve aims to lead by example, especially in the absence of regular captain Beth Carey, who was on national team duties.
“I just tried to be myself and lead by example in my actions rather than by my words. Filling the role of captain while Beth was away is never easy, but the team made it a smooth transition,” she said.
As the 2024 season approaches, Reeve is optimistic about the team’s prospects.
“We’re looking good. We have a lot of returning players, plus the addition of a few new players and a new coaching staff, which is exciting. We’re very lucky to learn from some amazing coaches who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in playing at the highest level.”
The team’s preparation has been intense, with a strong lead-up through a competitive state league season.
“Training has been competitive, so we’re excited to put that into action,” Reeve said.
“I think we’re more motivated than ever. We’ve missed out on a medal the past two years, so we’re all focused on getting one this year.”
The Adelaide Storm will take on the Perth Steel on Saturday 31 August at Warwick Stadium, Perth.
