Updates to 2022 ABVT Season

Updates to 2022 ABVT Season

A new year signifies the start of an exciting new Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT) season.

The 2022 ABVT will feature four events across Australia from February to March, starting with the Cobram Barooga Classic in Victoria on 4 February, through to the Coolangatta Tour Finals in QLD on 25 March.

This season will see a few changes to the format of the event, so if you’re heading to any events as a player, coach, official or supporter, it’s important everyone is across these changes.

Change of Tour Format

ABVT Elite (Previously known as Division 1)

  • 16 team Main Draw
  • Max 32 team Qualifying Tournament (QT)

ABVT Challenger Series (Previously known as Division 2)

  • Two divisions (Division 1 & 2), we have added an extra division to cater for up-and-coming athletes and too expand the ABVT
  • Prizemoney on offer for Division 1
  • 1-16 Challenger Teams = 1 x 16 team division
  • 17-24 Challenger Teams = 1 x 24 team division
  • 25-32 Challenger Teams = 2 x divisions (Div 1 capped at 16)

Change to Event Start Times

QT is now starting Friday morning (approx. 9am)

ABVT Elite first pool match will now be played on Friday afternoon. Everyone in the ABVT Elite Main Draw will play 1 match on Friday afternoon, from approx. 4pm. This will reduce the number of games on Saturday to assist with competition flow and timings.

ABVT Challenger Series starts Saturday morning (from approx. 8am)

QT Results

QT results do not impact your seeding for ABVT Challenger if you don’t make ABVT Elite Main Draw
