Women’s Volleyroos I AVC Nation’s Cup Vietnam
The Women’s Volleyroos travelled to Vietnam to compete in the 2025 Asian Volleyball Confederation’s Nation’s Cup event from June 7 – 14, coming away with two wins.
After a week-long competition, Australian captain Mikaela Stevens expressed pride in her team for embracing the challenge and relishing the opportunity to compete against some of the top teams.
“There were many highlights from this tournament that I think will stay with me beyond my volleyball career,” Stevens said.
“A highlight is always playing the host nation. Volleyball is a top sport in Asia, especially on the women’s side, so it was awesome to play in that environment where they just live and breathe volleyball.
“I enjoyed seeing the girls step up in this environment and see the excitement and joy that they got playing in front of 5000+ Vietnamese fans!
“The other memorable part is just the off-court connections we make, our culture within the players and staff is something I treasure on every camp, every trip no matter who is on the team.”
Leading the team is always a special honour for Stevens, but being part of the debut tour for the next generation of Volleyroos is an experience she truly cherishes.
“For me, seeing the three young debs dominate in their debuts in the green and gold was awesome,” she said.
“It’s always a privilege to welcome new girls into the Volleyroos squad and to be a small part of that moment is always special.
“It was also extra memorable for me to be there alongside the two NSW debutants who I have seen rise rapidly through the NSW scene, and to see them show their talent and potential on the international stage was extra special.
“I think the biggest take away from this tour is that despite being young, we have the physicality and skill to compete with the top Asian teams, we just need to learn how to consistently bring this physicality for every point in every match.
“Being able to sustain the highest level of volleyball for two and a half hours will help us be able to compete with the best in Asia.”
