2023/24 Australian Beach Volleyball season to hit screens around the country
Volleyball fans throughout the country will have unrivalled access to the best domestic and international beach volleyball on offer following the release of this summer’s broadcasting schedule.
SBS will provide coverage of all four legs of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour, as well as three Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour events, allowing viewers to stream the biggest matches live throughout the season.
The action starts at Geelong Beach Volleyfest later this month when SBS On Demand will live stream the gold medal matches of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour along with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and medal matches from the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour.
The Beach Pro Tour gold medal matches will be also telecast live to all Australians via SBS’s free-to-air station.
SBS On Demand will continue to live stream the premier matches from the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour events in Cobram and Mollymook, while the SBS free-to-air channel will broadcast the gold medal matches from the Tour Finals in Coolangatta which double as the Australian Championships.
Beach Pro Tour matches from Mollymook and Coolangatta will also be available via SBS On Demand.
“SBS have been strong supporters of volleyball in Australia for a number of years now, and their recent broadcast of the Scape Australian Volleyball Super League showcased that competition to a passionate audience around the country,” said Andrew Dee, Volleyball Australia CEO.
“The 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide are fast approaching, and showcasing our premier national tour as well as the Beach Pro Tour to national and international audiences via SBS will continue to expose beach volleyball and its star players to a wider audience than ever before.
“It all gets underway in just over a week at the Geelong Beach Volleyfest and barely lets up in what will be an exciting summer ahead.”
SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp said the opportunity to once again partner with Volleyball Australia on a series of competitions means the broadcaster could provide Australians with access to the seven most prestigious beach volleyball tournaments on Aussie sand this year.
“This is an exciting time for both volleyball fans and general sports fans around the country,” he said. “There’s few more dynamic sports than beach volleyball and SBS is privileged to be able to broadcast both the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour and the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour to a wider audience than ever before.”
The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour starts on Friday 17 November in Geelong, with the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour event forming the second week of Geelong Beach Volleyfest from Wednesday 22 November.
