$6 Million Federal Commitment Boosts 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide
Volleyball Australia has welcomed a $6 million funding commitment announced today by South Australian Senator and Shadow Sports Minister, the Hon Anne Ruston, supporting the delivery and legacy of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, to be held in Adelaide in November 2025.
The funding will enhance the event experience for athletes and fans and help deliver wide-reaching community engagement initiatives, designed to inspire a new generation of beach volleyball participants and supporters across Australia.
“This investment will help us elevate the event for athletes, fans and the community and deliver a world-class event and build a lasting legacy for the sport,” said Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee.
“It’s a game-changing moment that will allow us to showcase beach volleyball at its highest level, while also strengthening community engagement and driving broader sport development outcomes.”
As the host nation, Volleyball Australia is committed to ensuring the event delivers long-term benefits for the sport. A key focus will be increasing the involvement of women and girls across all levels of volleyball – from participation to coaching, officiating, and leadership roles.
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships will attract 96 teams from close to 50 nations, providing a major economic boost for South Australia and the nation.
“After the world witnessed the unforgettable spectacle of beach volleyball played beneath the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Olympic Games, this truly global event is sure to generate significant economic activity and draw international attention to Australia,” said Mr Dee.
“This aligns with the green and gold runway towards Brisbane 2032 and showcases the value of investing in Olympic sports.”
Volleyball Australia also acknowledged the South Australian Government’s critical role in securing the Championships, the largest and most significant international beach volleyball event ever staged in Asia and Oceania.
“We thank the South Australian Government for its vision and commitment to bringing this landmark event to Adelaide,” said Mr Dee.
The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, Adelaide 2025, promise to deliver a transformative moment for the sport in the region and on the global stage.
“We remain optimistic the current Federal Government will realise the importance and value of the event and match this commitment.”
