Aussie juniors in action at U19 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships

Australia’s U19 athletes have kicked off their Asian Beach Volleyball Championships in style, with both women’s teams making their way through to the semi finals.

Stefanie Fejes/Alisha Stevens got off to a flying start, winning both their matches on day one, before going on to defeat Thailand in a thrilling three setter on day two.

In the semi finals, they’ll meet fellow Australians Jasmine Fleming/Jesse Mann who defeated Indonesia and Kazakhstan in the pool games.

Fleming said that while it’s going to be tough facing off against team mates, her and partner Mann are thrilled to have made it through to the semi finals.

“We’re super excited to play in the semi finals here in Thailand,” Fleming said.

“It’s unfortunate that only one of us (Australian women’s teams) can make it through to the gold medal match, but we are keen to give it all we’ve got,” she said.

For Stevens, she knows the courts well, having been the reserve in the Olympic qualification tournament.

But she’s excited to be playing alongside team mate Stefanie Fejes in this tournament.

“Stefie and I feel so ready for the semi finals…it’s hard to go up against your best friend but at the end of the day it’s just another game of volleyball,” Stevens said.

“We live and breathe this sport, so Stefie and I are going to go out and give it our best shot,” she said.

The semi finals action gets underway in Thailand at 3pm AEST.
