Australia set to compete at the under-19 and under-21’s Asian Beach Volleyball Championships

The U19/21’s Asian Beach Volleyball Championships are currently underway in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. Volleyball Australia has sent both male and female teams for the under-19 and under-21 categories. 

The under-19 Tournament is scheduled to commence first, with the competition beginning on Saturday the 3rd of July. The men’s team of Lucas Josefsen and Ben Booth will compete in their pool against Lebanon and Thailand.

Thewomen’s team 1 comprising of Alisha Stevens and Stefanie Fejes will compete in their pool against Kazakhstan and Thailand, with Jasmine Fleming and Jesse Mann of women’s team 2 competing in their pool against Kazakhstan, Indonesia and Thailand.

“We’reexcited for the athletes and coaches to be participating in the Asian Junior Championships in Thailand”, said Volleyball Australia’s National Pathway Manager, Paul Smith.

“In the current covid-times the opportunities to compete internationally have been few and far between, so we’re pleased to support their involvement and hope they enjoy the experience of competing at this level”.

Australian Volleyball Academy beach coach Anne Meijnderts has accompanied the teams to Thailand to compete, and is looking forward to some great results, saying, “I’m very grateful for the opportunity that the athletes in this age group gets to compete internationally in such turbulent times”. “I’m sure it will be an experience that our athletes will remember for the rest of their lives. Hopefully we can follow in the senior beach volleyroos footsteps and bring home a tournament win

This will be the first time Volleyball Australia’s junior athletes will have competed in an international tournament since January 2020.
