Aussie team take on Tour Finals in Qatar

The international beach volleyball season comes to a close this week with the Beach Pro Tour Finals taking place in Doha, Qatar from tonight through to Saturday.

The Tour Finals bring together the top eight teams on the beach volleyball world rankings following the final Elite16 event of the year, along with two wild cards.

Courtesy of their top five position in the world, Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy have earned their place in the elite field.

Last year they finished fourth in the Finals, with their best result coming in 2018 when they won bronze.

The pair have not finished outside the top 10 at any tournament they have played this year.

Having started the season with podium finishes in Qatar, Mexico and Brazil, they also took a share of fifth in Switzerland and were fourth at the World Championships despite pushing through illness throughout the event.

“It’s super cool to have the opportunity again to compete against the best in the world,” said Artarcho del Solar. “World Tour Finals are always super fun so I’m excited to give it all one more time after a long season.”

All of their pool opponents are familiar to the Australian team, having played them a total of 25 times, including 14 head-to-head match-ups in the last 12 months alone.
