Barry Couzner OAM Inducted into International Volleyball Hall of Fame

Volleyball Australia is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Barry Couzner OAM, who has been named among the 2025 inductees into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame (IVHF).

This prestigious honour recognises Barry’s decades-long service and leadership within the sport – most notably as a global pioneer in ParaVolley.

His inclusion as a Hall of Fame inductee places him alongside volleyball legends from around the world and underscores the enormous impact he has had on the sport both nationally and internationally.

Barry’s influence on ParaVolley has been transformative. As President of World ParaVolley from 2014 to 2023, he spearheaded the sport’s growth, launched new international events such as the World Super 6, and championed athlete inclusion at every level.

His tenure saw the professionalisation of the discipline and the strengthening of relationships with key international sporting bodies including the International Paralympic Committee, FIVB and the Asian Paralympic Committee.

A dedicated volunteer, Barry has held significant leadership roles including President of Volleyball Australia (1988–1997), Vice President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation, and Manager of Volleyball at the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

His contributions were recognised in 2008 with the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to volleyball.

Barry’s legacy is one of progress, inclusivity, and excellence. His induction into the IVHF’s Class of 2025 is a fitting tribute to a lifetime dedicated to growing the sport and making it more accessible for all.

The IVHF Induction Ceremony will take place on 18 October 2025 in Holyoke, Massachusetts – congratulations, Barry!
