Beach Volleyball to takeover Australia’s best beaches this summer
The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT) is set to return for the 2022/23 summer, bringing together Australia’s best beach volleyball players on Australia’s best beaches.
The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour will highlight what is set to be a massive summer of beach volleyball, with the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour also heading down under.
The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour will get underway on the first weekend of December in Torquay, as part of the Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest which will feature the Volleyball World Pro Beach Tour, and Australian Beach Volleyball Tour offering spectators a variety of formats to enjoy.
The tour will then head inland, to regional Victoria’s Cobram for the second round, before heading north to Wollongong for round three.
Coolangatta will host the Australian Beach Volleyball Championships for the second consecutive year, rounding out the 2022/23 tour.
The 2022/23 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour will provide the perfect platform for VA’s high performance athletes who are continuing their preparations on the green and gold runway to the Paris 2024, LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, and beyond.
Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Paul Burnett said he’s excited for the ABVT to make its long awaited return.
“The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour gives us an amazing opportunity to play on our home beaches in front of Australia crowds which is always a great experience,” Burnett said.
“Having four rounds in four beautiful locations confirmed for this summer is amazing, especially with the two new tour locations in Torquay and Wollongong.
“The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour is great for Chris (McHugh) and I to apply what we’ve been working on in the off season into a competitive setting before the international season.
“The level of the tour this year will be very high and so there will be lots of tough matches – I can’t wait to get out there,” he said.
Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee said that he looks forward to bringing the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour to life again this summer.
“The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour has become a hallmark series on the Australian volleyball calendar, with players from right across the country taking part,” Dee said.
“This summer, we are thrilled to see the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour held together with major international events, bringing the world’s best players to our shores.
“We were disappointed to not be able to deliver the full calendar earlier this year due to weather conditions, however look forward to bringing the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour back to our community this summer,” he said.
