Bendigo Ready to Host Best Australian Youth & Senior Volleyball Clubs
The Australian Youth Volleyball Championships and Club Championships are set to get underway in Bendigo from Sunday 25 September.
The premier Youth volleyball event will be spread across two venues, the Bendigo Stadium and Flora Hill Sports Stadium from Sunday 25 – Thursday 29 September.
Formally called the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships, this year marks the return of the Youth event for the first time since 2019, after the previous two editions were canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic
A record 77 teams from ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania will compete in ten divisions from Under 14s all the way through to Under 18s, battling it out over five days to determine the 2022 Australian Youth Champions.
Queensland will have the most teams in attendance, with 20 teams across the divisions, followed by the host state Victoria with 14 teams and NSW with 12.
Volleyball Australia’s Sport Delivery and Growth Director Phil Muller said it’s exciting to see national volleyball events returning to their pre-pandemic glory.
“It’s fantastic to see 77 teams coming to Bendigo for the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships starting on the weekend,” he said.
“After the event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID, the fact that we have record attendance this year demonstrates how eager Youth athletes are to return to national-level events and represent their state playing the sport they love.”
Straight after the Youth Championships, 25 teams will go head-to-head to battle for the title of 2022 Club Champion.
With titles up for grabs across Men’s and Women’s Premier, Division 1 and Division 2, there will be plenty of opportunities for clubs to fight for national glory and bragging rights in the new-look event.
“The introduction of the Club Championships to Volleyball Australia’s event calendar is all about providing a competitive playing opportunity and an assisted pathway of development for volleyballers around the country,” Muller said.
“While this tournament-style Club event will be new for many of the athletes participating, we hope to see great growth of this event in the years to come, allowing us to add even more divisions in future years.”
The 2022 Club Champions will be held at Bendigo Stadium from Friday 30 September – Sunday 2 October.
