Dates and venues announced for Australian Beach Volleyball Tour
Another high-energy summer of action is on the cards from November with the dates and venues announced for the 2023/24 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour.
Two rounds of the event will coincide with rounds of the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Tour, while the final event at Coolangatta in March will double as the Australian Beach Volleyball Championships.
The Tour’s opening round will take place mid-November at Torquay in Victoria, the home of last year’s Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest extravaganza.
The opening round of the Junior Tour will head to the Sunshine Coast’s Bulcock Beach in mid-January, before both Tours hold their second rounds at Cobram in early February.
The return to Cobram, one of the most popular stops on the Tour, is a welcome one after the forced relocation of last year’s event due to flooding of the Murray River.
At the end of the month both Tours will be at Mollymook on the NSW South Coast before the Australian Championships at Coolangatta in mid-March.
Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee said the Tours have become a mainstay of the sport’s annual calendar and a stepping stone from the grassroots to the elite.
“A quick look down the honour roll of players who have participated on the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour and won the Australian Championships shows an endless list of Olympians and Commonwealth Games representatives,” said Dee. “Not only are the Tours a fantastic showcase of the standard of the sport in this country, but they bring the beach volleyball community together and the sense of camaraderie is wonderful to be a part of.
“I’m also really pleased that we get to return to Cobram in February. The community really gets behind the event and I know how disappointed the players were that we had to move this year’s competition.
“The Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Tour is just as important in developing our up-and-coming athletes. The players who won the recent U21 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships have all come through the Junior Tour which goes to show the quality of these events.”
