Eight athletes selected for U21 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships

Two male and two female teams have been selected to represent Australia at the 2023 Under 21 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships next month.

  • Jasmine Fleming (QLD) & Stefie Fejes (NSW)
  • Lizzie Alchin (WA) & Kayla Mears (QLD)

  • Lucas Josefsen (QLD) & Ben Hood (QLD)
  • D’Artagnon Potts (SA) & Mitch Croft (VIC)

All the women selected are based in Brisbane with the Developing Beach Volleyroos program. Three of the male athletes are with the Developing Beach Volleyroos program in Adelaide, while Mitch Croft is with the Australian Volleyball Academy in Canberra.

The women’s teams will be coached by Margo Wiltens, while Andrew Schacht is coaching the men’s team.

Athletes were rewarded with selection based on recent form, with all athletes achieving strong results during the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour this year in both the Open and Junior events.

“We are extremely proud of the athletes who have gained selection for the U21 Asian Beach Volleyball Championships,” said Paul Smith, National Performance Pathways Manager at Volleyball Australia.

“We are blessed to have such talented cohort of athletes in this age group which is always a good problem for selectors to have. Making it onto the team is well-deserved achievement for these eight athletes and I know they will do their country proud.

“Their hard work and dedication are truly inspiring, and we have full confidence in their abilities to compete at the highest level.”

The tournament will double as a qualifying event for the Under 21 World Beach Volleyball Championships later this year, with the Australian teams hoping to lock down positions in the draw with a strong showing.

The 5th Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships will take place in Roi-Et, Thailand from 13 to 16 July.
