FIVB Empowerment helping develop the next generation
The FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) Empowerment initiative is playing a significant role in helping Volleyball Australia develop and nurture the next generation of elite volleyball athletes. As part of FIVB’s vision to elevate the sport globally, the empowerment program provides targeted support for national federations, such as Volleyball Australia, to improve their infrastructure, coaching standards, and athlete development programs.
One primary area where FIVB’s empowerment initiative is making a difference is through funding and resources, providing better access world-class coaching resources.
FIVB Empowerment funding recently supported the Volleyroos Men’s and Women’s National Team Coaches Dan Ilott & Russell Borgeaud to attend the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships in Bendigo.
The Australian Youth Volleyball Championships are an important Talent Identification event for National Program Coaches to see Australia’s best up and coming junior athletes in action.
The tournament also provides an opportunity to see the state team coaches working with their teams in competition – an important development opportunity for both the athletes and coaches.
The national coaches used the tournament week to talk with and connect with many state-based coaches as well as further the athlete talent indentification process.
Following the tournament, the best athletes from the age group stayed on in Bendigo to attend a National Development Camp, a unique opportunity in which boys and girls of various stages of development were represented.
Participants in the camp had access to the national program coaches in conjunction with the age group head coaches and coaches from the Australian Volleyball Academy.
FIVB Empowerment Funding allowed the National Team Head Coaches to play an overall leadership role in the camp, particularly in the areas of coach mentoring and development. This allowed Ilott and Borgeaud to delivering coach briefings and debriefings as the camp progressed as well as providing real-time development and mentoring sessions around the sessions.
The ongoing support of the FIVB Empowerment program and its funding to Volleyball Australia will continue to enable face-to-face learning opportunities for coaches an athletes on an ongoing basis, with opportunities to maximise impact strategically placed on the national calendar.
Volleyball Australia’s national programs are supported by FIVB Volleyball Empowerment, helping our teams and athletes reach their full potential and achieve their goals.
