Luke Ryan awarded 2025 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship
Developing Volleyroo Luke Ryan has today been announced as one of a select few athletes from around Australia awarded a prestigious 2025 Sport Australia Hall of Fame Tier 3 Scholarship.
The announcement comes just days after Ryan recorded a career-best finish alongside teammate Josh Howat at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures event in Qingdao, where the pair finished with a silver medal.
Since the program commenced, 236 athletes from 56 different sports have now been awarded a Scholarship through the Program, with many having gone on to represent Australia successfully at Olympic/Paralympic and World Championship level.
For Ryan, the Scholarship is one he is incredibly honoured to receive.
“I feel as though I’m standing among giants,” said Ryan.
“Not only is this an achievement, but an inspiring opportunity to take my sporting endeavours all the way.
“My sporting heroes are in the Hall of Fame, and with the support provided by this scholarship and mentoring program I aim to excel in my career, and ultimately join my heroes.
“I want to take my sport, Beach Volleyball, further than it’s ever been taken in Australia, and to do that I must ‘stand on the shoulders of giants’, an opportunity provided by the Sport
Australia Hall of Fame, which I am so grateful for,” he said.
Australian Sports Commission Chair Kate Jenkins AO congratulated the 2025 scholarship recipients.
“The ASC is proud to support this program that helps athletes to reach their full potential and to bring out the best in everyone involved in sport,” SHE SAID. “To receive a record number of applications is testament to the program’s success and it has been wonderful to see former scholarship recipients like Torrie Lewis, Caitlin Parker, Alex Saffy and Jesse Moore shine in Paris and inspire the next generation of athletes in the process.
“I wish the latest scholarship recipients every success and hope this extra financial support helps bring them a step closer to reaching their sporting goals.”
