National Events Update

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic combined with State border closures and restrictions has required Volleyball Australia to look at the upcoming national events calendar. As decisions below are made in consultations with the numerous stakeholders and Volleyball Australia remains committed to providing timely updates as they come to hand.

GOING AHEAD (confirmed) – 2021 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup

VA will be hosting the 2021 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup in December on the Gold Coast, even if only Queensland Schools can attend. The only situation that may prevent this hosting is if Queensland government restrictions due to the pandemic are put in place preventing the event from going ahead.

We are hopeful that by December the vaccination program will be at a level that will negate a “lockdown” and will enable safe participation for individuals.

VA are also planning the inclusion of a one-day Year 6 competition within the event. This competition will be scheduled for Thursday 9th December and we will provide more details in the next Newsletter.

FORMAT CHANGE & POSTPONEMENT – Australian Volleyball League

The Australian Volleyball League (AVL) will not proceed with the five week home and away season, with VA looking to host a new format in December, designed to provide all Clubs with the greatest degree of certainty in the current COVID-19 climate. Click here for more.

CANCELLED – Australian Youth Volleyball Championships and Australian Club Volleyball Championships

Scheduled to be held 26 September – 3 October 2021 in Bendigo, Victoria, Volleyball Australia has made the tough decision to cancel both events.

While we recognise the importance of meaningful playing opportunities aiding the development of athletes, the health and financial risks involved in proceeding with these events make it not viable again this year.

This is disappointing news for all involved, however we are remaining optimistic for the future and will proceed with planning for successful delivery in a more suitable environment.
