Seven teams fighting for Asian Championships glory

It’s another big weekend for Australian Beach Volleyball with a high number of teams looking for success around the globe.

Following their victory in the Beach Pro Tour Challenge event last week in Latvia, and their new World Ranking of 10th, Tom Hodges and Zac Schubert have made their way to Pingtan in China for the 2023 Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championships.

They are joined in the 32-team men’s draw by Izac Carracher and Mark Nicolaidis and Commonwealth Games gold medallists Chris McHugh and Paul Burnett, with all three Australian combinations seeded in the top five teams.

Georgia Johnson and Jasmine Fleming are the top-ranked Aussie pairing in the women’s draw, and they head to the Asian Championships with strong form following their Beach Pro Tour Futures bronze medal in Switzerland two weeks ago.

Also featuring in the 26-team women’s draw are the pairings of Alisha Stevens and Caitlin Bettenay, Tara Phillips and Britt Kendall and Jana Milutinovic and Stefie Fejes, who last week made the Beach Pro Tour Futures quarter finals in France.

Competition starts on Friday morning and continues through to Sunday.

Two Australian teams will contest the main draw of the Beach Pro Tour Futures event on Ios Island in Greece over the next two days.

James Takken and Solomon Bushby enter the tournament as the ninth seeds, with eleventh seeds Lucas Josefsen and Ben Hood also in action. Both teams dropped their first pool matches on Thursday but still have the opportunity to progress to the knockout stages.

D’artagnan Potts and Garang Anyang along with Chris Blake and Rob Reeves were unable to proceed past qualification into the main draw.
