
Six Aussie Teams set to Compete in Beach Pro Tour events this week
Following their impressive performance at the recent Beach Volleyball World Championships, Australia’s top beach volleyball teams are back in action this week at the Gstaad Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 event in Switzerland from 6-10 July.
Olympic silver medallists Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy are seeded 9th in the women’s event, coming into the tournament off a 5th place finish in last month’s World Championships, and a 5th place at the Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 event prior to that in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Just weeks out from competing at the Commonwealth Games, their Birmingham 2022 selected teammates Paul Burnett and Chris McHugh are seeded 14th in the Men’s event.
They will be joined by fellow Aussies Mark Nicolaids and Izac Carracher in their breakout international season, seeded 17th in Gstaad after an impressive 9th place finish at last month’s World Championships in Rome.
The Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 event gets underway on Wednesday 6 July with all three Aussie teams in action tonight:
7pm AEST : McHugh / Burnett (AUS) v Bruno Schmidt / Saymon (BRA)
7pm AEST: Carracher / Nicolaidis (AUS) v Seidl / Waller (AUT)
11pm AEST: Clancy / Artacho del Solar v Taina / Victoria (BRA)

While six Aussies are fighting for medals in Switzerland this week, another six athletes are across the border in Italy competing at the Beach Pro Tour Futures event in Lecce, from 7 – 10 July.
Zachery Schubert and Tom Hodges will represent the green and gold in the men’s event, while Alisha Stevens / Georgia Johnson and Britt Kendall / Jasmine Fleming are in the women’s event.
Stevens/Johnson and Schubert/Hodges are already through to Friday’s main draw, with Kendall/Fleming set to compete in the qualification rounds on Thursday.
