VA launches Internal Sports Tribunal
Volleyball Australia is proud to announce the formation of its inaugural Internal Sports Tribunal and appointment of 10 Tribunal Members.
VA’s commitment to integrity and ensuring a safe and fair environment for all participants is clear, and the VA Internal Sports Tribunal will play a significant role in enforcing VA policies, ensuring a fair process and increasing the sport’s capability to respond to integrity matters.
The Tribunal will be accessible to the volleyball community to hear disciplinary matters which primarily fall outside the remit of the National Sports Tribunal.
This may include matters which occur on the court, during an event or where the parties don’t agree for a matter to be heard by the National Sports Tribunal. Additionally, panels may be convened to assist with mediation should a matter not proceed to hearing.
The 10 members have been appointed for a two-year period and range from experienced sport administrators to legal professionals. VA will elect three panel members to sit on each hearing, ensuring a mix of experience and eliminating conflicts of interest.
“We were overwhelmed with the volume and high calibre of candidates for the Tribunal and are so excited by these appointments,” said Andrew Dee, Volleyball Australia CEO. “We’re very grateful for their voluntary contribution to Volleyball and look forward to working with them.”
Inaugural member Briony Swart will bring her sport administration and volleyball experience to the Tribunal.
“I am looking forward to contributing back to volleyball as a panel member of the VA Internal Sports Tribunal,” she said.“It will be a privilege to support integrity in volleyball, as part of the broader sporting landscape.”
Experienced barrister Jonathan Manning is thrilled to be appointed as a Tribunal member.
“I am delighted to be appointed to the inaugural Volleyball Australia Internal Sports Tribunal,” he said “I look forward to working with the other members in contributing to an independent and impartial Tribunal for the resolution of disputes.”
Volleyball Australia’s Internal Sports Tribunal will commence on 1 July 2023.
