Volleyball Australia postpones first leg of 2021/22 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour
Volleyball Australia has made the decision to postpone the first leg of the 2021/22 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT).
Originally slated to be held in Mollymook from 19-21 November 2021, the event will now be held in the new year on the weekend of 18-20 February 2022.
With current COVID-19 restrictions in place around the country, as well as travel and border closures, the decision was necessary.
Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee said the decision to postpone was not an easy one, but made to give all teams an equal opportunity to participate.
“While we were hopeful the situation would improve, the health and safety of our community continues to be the number one priority,” Dee said.
“Delivering the first leg of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour is not currently possible with the restrictions in place around Australia.
“Thank you to the NSW Office of Sport and Shoalhaven City Council for their continued support, and we look forward to bringing The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour to Mollymook in February,” he said.
With the Mollymook round being delayed, it will also delay the start of the ABVT, which will now commence in January with final dates and locations to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
