Volleyball Australia ready to start work on Brisbane 2032 Games plans

Volleyball Australia together with Volleyball Queensland, welcomes the Queensland Government’s new master plan designed for the 2032 Games for Olympic and Paralympic, that will likely see beach volleyball and indoor volleyball played on the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast is currently hosting Volleyslam, a 10 day beach volleyball festival that includes the Mahindra Beach Volleyball Championships, Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures, Australian Youth Championships and Australian Schools Cup.  More than 700 teams from across Australia and around the world are taking part.

Australia’s largest volleyball event, the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, that features a staggering 516 teams from more than 160 schools, also calls the Gold Coast home and is played at the Carrara Stadium, a legacy venue of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Volleyball Australia and Volleyball Queensland said the news this week from the Queensland Government is positive, but they are eager to finalise the venue locations and work collaboratively with the Queensland Government to identify legacy opportunities.

While the Olympic and Paralympic Games venues are a key component, VA is eager to understand the broader benefits for the whole of sport and to be part of the discussions around the 2032 Delivery Plan.  Volleyball participation is growing for both indoor and beach events, and VA wants to be part of the discussions around investment into major venues and grassroots sports that is said to include enhancements and upgrades to facilities.

Volleyball Australia is working together with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), to deliver the 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Adelaide from 14-23 November.  It will be the biggest beach volleyball event to be held in Australia since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and will be the first major milestone for the sport on the green and gold runway towards the 2032 Games.

With the World Championships set to be held down under and provide an incredible opportunity to grow participation and interest in the sport, Volleyball Australia is eager to work with all levels of Government to ensure legacy facilities are in place in maximising major events and opportunities.
