Volleyball Australia’s Largest Participation Event Taking Place on Gold Coast

Volleyball Australia is pleased to partner with Tourism and Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast to host the 2023 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup on the Gold Coast from December 3-9, 2023.

The record-breaking 2023 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup, at which 5,500 students from 150 schools are competing over six days of competition, is currently taking place across four venues in the south-east Queensland city.

The largest national volleyball participation event in the country, the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup brings together secondary school students from around Australia and New Zealand.

Volleyball Australia CEO, Andrew Dee, said it’s fantastic to return to the Gold Coast for the record-breaking national schools event.

“We’re thrilled to see the largest ever Australian Volleyball Schools Cup on the Gold Coast this year. Since its inception in 2019, the event has steadily grown, and bounced back from the COVID-impacted years, so to see a record-breaking turnout of over 5000 students on the Gold Coast is excellent,” Dee said.

“This event is huge for Volleyball Australia and the wider community, with almost 500 teams taking part and hundreds of families traveling. There are significant opportunities for international growth, which for the local Gold Coast community, will provide further economic benefits.

“The Australian Volleyball Schools Cup is also an opportunity to identify our next generation of Australian team athletes. With Brisbane 2032 approaching, there is no better place to host kids that could well be representing their country at the Olympics in under nine years time,” he said.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said: “It’s a huge honour to again welcome the Volleyball Schools Cup back with 5,500 competitors showcasing their skills at some of the Gold Coast’s best sporting facilities.’’

“This event is a breeding ground for future national-level representatives with players from across Australia, and New Zealand, taking to the courts. Make a date with the Volleyball Schools Cup and get down to Carrara to support our future champions,” said Tate.

Following the Opening Ceremony on Sunday 3 December, competitors aged 12 through to 18 will battle it out from 4-9 December 2023 across Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium, Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, Coomera Indoor Sports Centre and Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium.

The Australian Volleyball Schools Cup is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast and features on the It’s LIVE! In Queensland events calendar.

Volleyball Australia also recognises event sponsors Hancock Prospecting, Scape Australia, Mikasa and Scrunchiko, and thanks them for their continued support.
