Australian Volleyball Schools Cup – Day 3 Tuesday December 9
The midweek action ramped up today as day three of the Schools Cup delivered some of the closest contests of the tournament so far.
Teams across all age groups were fighting for every point, filling the Gold Coast with energy, noise and school pride.
Juliet and Lily from Santa Maria College are lining up in the Year 12 Girls Division, with Lily returning for her third Schools Cup and Juliet experiencing the event for the first time.
“This is my third year here, which is super exciting,” Lily said.
“It’s so fun to be back again this year, we love coming to the Gold Coast and it’s so fun both at the tournament but also just being able to spend time with friends off the court.”
“Coming into the tournament, I was feeling pretty nervous but also excited to get into it and see what it was all about,” Juliet said.
Baulkham Hills High School students Minidu and Kane are making their Schools Cup debut in the Year 9 Boys Division, taking in the atmosphere and competition for the very first time.
“The tournament has been really fun so far, the environment is way more competitive then what we’re used to,” Kane said.
“I think on the first few days it was very difficult to acclimatise to all the cheering and noise, back in Sydney we don’t have somewhere with this many courts in one place so it was a bit intense until we got used to it.”
“We’ve had both some wins and losses to start the tournament, but it’s been so amazing to come to the Gold Coast to compete at this event,” Minidu said.
