An avalanche of high-quality volleyball action is set to descend on South Australia from Thursday when the 2024 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships starts at The Lights Community & Sports Centre and St Clair Recreation Centre.

The four-day tournament is the first event in a host of competitions to be held in the state ahead of the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide next year.

Following this week’s event, a number of participants will take part in the National Development Program Junior Development Camp.

The 2024 Mahindra Australian Volleyball Super League Finals Series will take place in October, the 2024/25 Australian Beach Volleyball Tour will start on Glenelg Beach in November followed by the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Tour.

“The Australian Junior Volleyball Championships will see 42 teams from across Australia, New Zealand and the USA descend on Adelaide over the coming four days. The junior champs is just the start for a series of national events in South Australia over the next 3 years with the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships being the jewel in the crown,” said Verity Hanka, Volleyball Australia Events Director.

“The tournament provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase the best U19 and U23 players from around the country and the atmosphere at this event, particularly on finals day, is always incredible.”

South Australian Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison said the 2024 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships will spike interest in elite sporting action ahead of a series of events in the state.

“We know South Australians love their volleyball and beach volleyball, so to host the sports at their highest standards is a testament to our state’s reputation as a leading event destination and adds to this year’s already blockbuster calendar,” Minister Bettison said.

“I look forward to welcoming the nearly 500 junior volleyballers and support teams to South Australia over the coming days and wish them all the best in the Championships.”
