Vale Daniel Arabi

Volleyball Australia is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Australian National Volleyball Team member Daniel Arabi.

Daniel was born in Uruguay, into a volleyball family. His father was a National Team coach and his mother represented Uruguay as a player.

After moving to Australia and progressing up the volleyball ranks, Daniel was a member of the NSW team that won the National Championships in 1980. He played 25 matches for Australia in 1981-82, including the Volleyroos’ first World Championships appearance in 1982. Daniel was captain of the Volleyroos team for 7 matches in 1982, and also a member of the famous old club Fort Street, that won numerous competitions in the early 1980s.

Daniel also coached the Fort St club and NSW women’s teams, leaving a lasting legacy on the NSW and national Australian volleyball scene.

Daniel will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him, and Volleyball Australia extends its deepest condolences to Daniel’s family and friends.

Daniel’s funeral will be held in Sydney on Tuesday 28 November.
