Volleyroos record their first win at the VNL
The Volleyroos have claimed their first 2021 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) victory in a five set triumph over Iran (23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 12-15).
Volleyroos Co-Captain Nehemaih Mote is proud of the team for sticking together and said that the team will continue to fight in their next fixtures.
“I mentioned to a teammate that sometimes the victories won through a period of pushback, not the ones that would’ve been 3-0, are the ones we can draw more value from.
“A team willing to stick together through adversity was seen last night; loud and unapologetic. We will revel in this achievement together and work hard for each other in our next fixtures to feel this amazing once again.” Mote said.
Mote’s Co-Captain Luke Perry emphasised the importance of the hardwork the team is doing everyday in the VNL bubble and said it was nice to finally see it pay off.
“It was a full team effort, from team to staff, bottom to top, everyone deserves this. We rest and recover now and get prepared for the next match,” Perry said.
Congratulations to Tom Douglas-Powell who made his Volleyroos debut overnight.
The Volleyroos will take their fighting spirit into tonight’s game against Slovenia at 9pm AEST.
